Pastures for young horses

Home > Pastures for young horses

Young horses and broodmares are very important at Waterland Quarterhorses. Our service starts with broodmares who can foal at our ranch. The foals can grow up at the ranch and when they are old enough we can start/break your colt.

Waterland has lots of pastures for these horses. We can give them a youth so that they become good and strong (sport)horses. They can grow up in the right environment and with the right care.
It is possible to bring your broodmare to the ranch and let her foal here. We have the right knowledge to take care of the mare. We use a birth alarm and a camera. The mare and foal can go outside right after the birth (next day). This is very important for the foal. The broodmares get special food (Cavalor Probreed muesli).

When your horse is 2 á 3 years old he/she can be started at the ranch. We work your horse 3 or 4 times a week, but he/she stays in the group outside. There is not much difference for the horse, because after the training he/she goes back to the friends. The horses stay mentally very strong! Heidi Westland starts the colts at Waterland. Heidi has lots of experience with young horses and worked for Fred Thornton.

We believe that horses can become sporthorses only when they grow up like a horse. Horses can be a horse at our ranch and grow up on a natural way. The horses are settled in groups with different ages. For example the young mares are together with older mares and broodmares. So the older horses can educate the young ones a bit. The stallions and geldings are also together in a group (also different ages together).

Service
The two big pastures have both a big stal with hay and water. We clean these big stalls two times a day. In the winter the young horses and broodmares get extra Cavalor muesli. The young horses get 'Cavalor Juniorix' and the older horses 'Cavalor Westernmix'.
We check all the horses every day. When needed we treat the horses right away. There is always a stall available for the horses. Very important...There is always somebody on the ranch, during the day and at night.
